Why should I use this when I can use bleach or leave the door open to get rid of odor? - Bleach will kill mold and bacteria but doesn't remove the residue from the inside of the outer tub. This residue is a "base" for more detergent/softener residue to collect on and odor will return. Leaving the door open does decrease the odor by drying out the odor-causing residue but it actually makes the problem worse because it makes it very difficult to remove. If your washer smells with the door open or closed it's time to clean it!

Will Smelly Washer Cleaner remove mold from the door gasket? To remove mold from the door gasket you can mix a teaspoon of cleaner in a spray bottle with hot water and spray the affected areas liberally. Allow it to soak for a long period (even overnight) and the mold should easily be cleaned. Mold stains impregnated into the rubber may take repeated applications and/or vigorous scrubbing.
Why don't I see "floating fungus" described in your testimonials? - Only very extreme cases will see any detergent or fungus residue floating to the top. You won't be able to see any chemical reaction while using Smelly Washer.
I need to soak overnight but my washer drains after being paused for a couple of hours. - If you are able to open the door after pausing it will stop the washer from draining. Some customers have reported they unplug or shut the power to the washer off.
What are some tips when using Smelly Washer Cleaner? - For more difficult cleanings if you're able to intermittently agitate it will disperse the cleaner again. Or you can reach inside the unit and manually turn the drum or agitator. Another tip is to add 1-3 gallons of hot water either through the door or detergent dispenser in order to raise the water level. Over the years of suds and soiled water splashing farther up the outer tub it can build up quite a layer of detergent/fungus. Keep in mind some higher-end units may go into an automatic drain if too much water is added.
I did a cleaning and my washer smells worse! - You have a more extreme case! It's actually a good sign that it smells worse! In more extreme cases as the outer layers of fungus get dissolved away the inner layers are exposed to air and may smell worse. Do another overnight soak. If your washer is several years old it may take several soaks to remove the build-up of detergent and fungus inside your washing machine.
How often do I need to use SmellyWasher after cleaning my washer? - The frequency of use depends upon the amount of detergent used, if fabric softener is used and the temperature of water generally used. That being stated, preventive maintenance is important for any appliance. If any type of maintenance cycle is done only a half-teaspoon of SmellyWasher is needed in a normal hot soak to remove any residue.
